Why busway

Busway: the smarter alternative to traditional cabling

One prefabricated, enclosed system replaces runs of parallel cable.

It goes up in sections, not cable pulls.

And it grows with your building.

Comparison

Traditional cabling vs. busway

Busway isn't the answer for every circuit. Our team will tell you where cable is the better call.

Legacy wiring systems
  • Many parallel conductors to pull and terminate
  • Large trays and more ceiling space
  • New loads mean new circuits
  • Changes require rework on site
Busway system
  • Prefabricated lengths, bolted joints
  • Compact enclosed run
  • Plug-in points along the route
  • Re-route or extend with standard parts

Design, build, expand

How a busway project is designed, built and expanded

  • 01

    Design flexibility

Plug-in points along the run put loads where the layout needs them.

  • 02

    Installation logistics

Prefabricated sections joined and tightened on site.

  • 03

    Expansion

Add a plug-in box when the load grows, no new feeder.

  • 04

    Space and access

A compact run close to the ceiling frees the space below.

Applications

Busway is in every construction and infrastructure project

Typical recommendations. Final selection depends on each project's specifications.

Scale model of a region with buildings, hospital, mall, industry, data center, lab, telecom center with satellite dishes, port, canal, oil field, hydroelectric and nuclear plants, showing which busway is used in each

Total installed cost

What does power distribution really cost?

The conductor price is only part of it. Compare the total installed cost.

Cable and trays

Busway

  • Materials

    Conductor, lugs and terminations

    Sections and fittings

  • Parallel cables

Several cables per phase at high currents

    One enclosed run

  • Trays and conduit

    Large trays or conduit banks

    Not required

  • Supports

    Heavy, closely spaced supports

    Hangers along the run

  • Labor and time

Pulling, dressing and terminating on site

    Hang, join and tighten

  • Space

    More ceiling and riser space

    Compact run

  • Future expansion

    New circuits from the switchboard

    Add a plug-in box

  • Maintenance

    Many terminations to check

    Accessible joints

At high currents and on runs with many parallel conductors, busway is often more competitive.

On small circuits, cable can be the better choice.

We compare both options for your project.

Intelligence & operation

Measure, monitor and control

With compatible accessories, plug-in points can measure and report their consumption. Available functions depend on the product line and configuration.

  1. 01Busway
  2. 02Plug-in box with meter
  3. 03GPRS or PLC communication
  4. 04Monitoring platform
  • Consumption visibilitySee energy use by floor, area or load.
  • Load identificationFind the loads that drive demand.
  • Capacity planningKnow how much room each run has left.
  • Remote operationRemote disconnection and reconnection.

Defined per project with compatible accessories; not every function applies to every line. Useful in high-rise residential and buildings with heavy HVAC loads.

Low-voltage busway: equivalent lines

WetownABB

Same factory, different label. Wetown manufactures busway for ABB in its own complex in China. In comparable configurations it is essentially the same busway: ABB's carries ABB branding and labels, ours carries Wetown's. That is why we can offer a more competitive price.

Specialist product · GM-Z

Are you looking for medium-voltage busway?

GM-Z is a cast-resin busway built for medium-voltage power: typically the link between generators, transformers and switchgear in power plants and large industrial sites.

It is engineered and quoted project by project. Most commercial and industrial buildings need a low-voltage system such as LVA or GM instead.
